To say he hadn't been expecting this would have been a lie. Hawkins knew his own eratic behavior would be his downfall; it had been before, it would be again. He survived throughout time by being a coward, cutting his losses, and worming his way out of things.

Not this time. This time, he was reaching the point where he could almost control the mixture of magics in his body. His tattoos were visible now, his eyes bright, his body healthy and strong. He could fight, he could win, and those who stood against him would be very, very sorry. And very dead.

There is an area of the Nexus in which the grass is tall and dead, a place in which, if you held still long enough, you could almost feel Africa. This was the place where Hawkins had thrived. This is the place he waited in now, hidden by the grass, his knifes spread around him and a grin on his face.

Hawkins was waiting for the end to come.
